Project description
This is my last project of the year, and my last project at the University of Southampton, which requires us to conduct critical research on a social issue. I will present my research results in this article. The name of my project is Stop excessive competition!
Purpose
The aim of this project is to:
Purposive: Based on the identification of an issue or problem worthy and capable of investigation.
Inquisitive: Seeking to acquire new knowledge.
Informed: Conducted from an awareness of previous, related research. Methodical: Planned and carried out in a disciplined manner. Therefore, next I need to choose a social issue for critical research.
Deliverables
– 3D dynamic posters
– A visual report (publication)
– A 3D animated video
Topic selection
Structural unemployment(selected)
Introduction: My topic of choice is structural unemployment. Nowadays, the quality of college graduates is getting better and better, but strangely, it is getting harder and harder for them to find satisfactory jobs. What are the causes of these problems, perhaps we should look at ourselves, is it because we are so competitive with each other? Therefore, I intend to explore the problem of structural unemployment from the perspective of excessive competition. I name this project Stop excessive competition! Hope to use this form of imperative sentence to call attention to the problem of excessive competition.
Personal guess

The above notes are my personal guesses. My first question is what is over-competition.
Brainstorming

In this project, I used the brainstorming of previous projects, and I found that excessive competition and structural unemployment are inextricably linked. So that makes me even more interested in the topic of excessive competition.
Data collection and research

I collected some data, sorted out and analyzed them and made them into charts. The data cover everything from the number of college graduates and the proportion of those who find jobs to the distribution of the population and the causes of anxiety about excessive competition.
A publication
After I finished collecting and sorting out the data, I made a picture book and sorted it into a publication. In this book, I introduce the concept of excessive competition in a fairy-tale way, aiming to make my understanding and research on excessive competition accessible to more people.

I produced a publication that was divided into three modules. 1. What is excessive competition? 2. Causes of excessive competition. 3. Social problems caused by excessive competition. I elaborated my research from these three points.
3D dynamic posters and 3D animation
In this poster, I show the causes of excessive competition. Among them, the most important reason is the increase in employment demand and the shortage of employment, which leads to excessive competition for employment and structural unemployment. Therefore, I adopted the image of an hourglass in this picture. Each of us is a sphere in an hourglass. We are all running towards the same goal at the same time, but we always encounter bottlenecks and difficulties.
In this poster, I show the reality of over-competition, the fact that we are all part of a society that is constantly crowded and excluded, struggling with each other. In this poster, I want to reflect such a picture.
In this poster, I show the consequences of excessive competition, and I use the shape of a cage around me for composition. Each of us is trapped in a cage, constantly struggling and trying to escape, in this process, confusion and loss is the problem we have to face. Therefore, in this poster, I mainly want to show people’s psychological depression and helplessness.
After I finished the dynamic poster, I always wanted to have a more vivid work to show what excessive competition is. Therefore, in this part of the presentation, I choose the form of 3D animation. I used some geometry like balls to refer to each and every one of us, all of us jostling and colliding, which corresponds to the current situation of excessive competition.
Reflection
In this project, I was asked to conduct research on some social issues in a critical and objective manner. The point I choose is structural unemployment caused by excessive competition. The name of the project is Stop Over-competition! Research methods include objective data collection and analysis, as well as processing and studying the collected data. I made a publication, three motion posters, and a 3D animated video to show my research process. I choose from three aspects of excessive competition. 1. What is excessive competition? 2. Causes and current situation of excessive competition. 3. Social and psychological problems caused by excessive competition. This is a systematic work that requires me to explore problems from multiple dimensions. I think this project is very meaningful.
