– explore speculative and critical approaches to your topic theme
– consider a project that can be explored further as part of your FMP – continue to develop your thinking of your topic through a sequential time based narrative
– learn about film making and editing
Deliverables
– Visual design pitch 30 second film duration that explores a possible project – Research folder/s and sketchbooks
Topic selection
Demographics (selected)
Introduction: My topic is demographics, and I want to focus on the problem of structural unemployment caused by excessive competition in this video. However, excessive population and competitive pressure have become a status quo in developing countries. I hope this video can show this social problem.
Background Research

Brainstorming
In this project, I intend to use an abstract form to express my video images, and use a visual metaphor to show the problem of structural unemployment caused by excessive competition caused by overpopulation.

In the process of brainstorming, I found the keyword bubble, so I wanted to use the keywords bubble and growth to show my video.
The storyboard
I drew my storyboard based on this idea.

I’m going to use foam and marbles to complete my next video project.
Video
In the process of shooting and preparing for the shooting, I encountered many obstacles. Due to the epidemic, I was unable to conduct street interviews and investigations. Therefore, I planned to use some simple props to make an experimental image to express the structural unemployment caused by excessive competition. Here is the final video
The main elements of this video I chose are pools, bubbles and marbles. Our society is like a pool, and the capacity of an industry has a ceiling. As individuals (marbles) continue to join the pool, and competition (bubbles) becomes more intense, one day the entire industry will collapse and more jobs will be lost. I want to use this experimental method to reveal the phenomenon of this society, and at the end, I will give my explanation of structural unemployment in the way of dictionary entry.
Reflection
In this project, I was asked to present a selected social theme for 30 seconds. In the process of making a video, it is a great challenge to realize the idea, build the script, or clip the video. But in the end, I completed all my plans one by one. I felt very happy, because I not only practiced my video editing skills, but also had a unique perspective and thinking on social issues.
